Didcha ever ride around Lake Sebago?

That's what Tom asked.  Come to think of it, "No, I never did" I replied – and so began another scooter riding adventure.

It all started when were sitting in this great coffee place in Gorham called Saint Joe's Coffee.

St. Joe's is the Maine home of New Orlean's Beignets, which, being pronounced Ben Naay, is corrupted by our Down East accent, into Bennies – just plain Ben eees.
Be that as it may, St. Joe's whips up these deep fat fried dough-balls - four to a serving - covered in powdered sugar and a side of about six different "sauces".

I chose liquid chocolate.  Now, how decedent can one get?

Joe's coffee is something else and well worth the trip without the benefit of the Bennie's.

And, to top it all off, St. Joe's has a great breakfast menu, for no dollars at all.

Sebago Lake is the deepest and second largest lake in Maine. It's 12 miles long, with 98 miles of shoreline, and covers 45 square miles.  Pretty slick.  Just the right size for an after-coffee spin.

When we reached Sebago on Route 114, the wonderful, curving, in and out, alongside-the-lake-road, we found the lake to be in almost late Spring condition.  The water clear, the breeze cool and the sky Maine Blue.

However, when we reached the northern end of the lake, where twisty Rte. 114 meets main road 302, we found remnants of the ice sheet, clinging tenaciously to the lake's edges.

Route 302 is a major road - interestingly boring.  It's got some great scenery, but mostly it's the get-to-the-lake-from-Portland road: clogged traffic slow going.  But I'm not complaining, it put a nice touch to the ride's end.  Try it.  You'll like it.

  1. I love beignets, I love blue sky and water, but I was thinking about how tortured Tom must have been around those things! I hope he gets well and stays well so he can scooter for many, many more happy years! Looks like you two had a really nice day.

    1. To his credit, Tom only had a cup of coffee. In addition, we are making a point of stopping more often and strolling around - little bit of exercise while scooting.
